Dave Heeley looking relaxed before the challenge
Blind Dave Heeley visited RNIB College Loughborough on 14 October to tell his inspiring story to learners and staff. In April 2008, Dave completed a gruelling 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents with his guide runner Malcolm Carr. The pair became the third people in the world to complete the challenge, with Dave becoming the first ever blind person. Dave and Malcolm were running to raise awareness and money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Dave told learners of his world wide trip which he described as “a fantastic adventure” travelling around the globe he completed marathons in the Falklands, Brazil, Los Angeles, Sydney, Dubai and Tunisia before lining up on the start line of the London Marathon for the final leg.
Dave hopes his story will inspire learners feel motivated to overcome the challenges they face. Learners were interested in Dave’s next challenge, a secret he is keeping close to his chest!
