In order to make sure you see everything you need to see and get chance to ask lots of questions, we keep groups to 3 or 4 learners only. We also tailor the groups so similar people are visiting on the same day. So 3 types of visit day are available:

  • in-house visit day - for learners looking at an in-house programmes, these can be residential or day
  • Loughborough College visit day - for learners who will study a mainstream course at our partner college, these can be residential or day
  • General visit day - for all interested learners

The Application Process

  1. Download and complete and application form
  2. We will contact your connexions advisor to get copies of your school reports, statement and any other relevant information
  3. After our academic team has reviewed this information we will invite you for a pre-admission assessment.
  4. The assessment will be for 2 days for residential applicants and 1 day for local learners
  5. After your assessment we will let you know if you have been offered a place at the College.
  6. An assessment report will follow and be sent to your connexions advisor
  7. Your connexions advisor will compile a report that will be sent to the Learning and Skills Council to apply for the funding for you to come to the College.

Q) How do I get funding to come to the College?
A) Your connexions advisor will apply for the funding on your behalf

Q) What do I do if I don't have a connexions advisor?
A) Contact your local office or your school may be able to tell you who you need to contact

Q) When do applications need to be in by?
A) Spaces at the College are limited, however we usually accept applications until Easter for a September start date.

Q) How soon after I apply will my assessment be?
A) That depends on how quickly your information is returned from your connexions advisor. It could be anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

Q) When are the assessments?
A) The assessments are usually Tuesday to Wednesday for residential applicants and Tuesday’s for local learners. We assess students between October and June for the following academic year

Q) What happens during an assessment?
A) We will assess your basic skills e.g. communication, IT, numeracy & literacy and study skills. We will talk to you about your mobility and personal care needs. If you are applying for a mainstream course your assessment will likely to include an interview at Loughborough College. You will get a chance to experience life at the College, spend time with current students and staff.

Q) Can I stay with my child during their assessment?
A) We can accommodate 1 parent during an assessment, please make it clear on your application if you wish to stay over.
