Learners working in the College Office

All adult programmes at the RNIB College are extremely work focused and aim to support trainees into employment within a short time of finishing their programme. We work with trainees to identify barriers to employment and then we work intensively to give trainees the skills that they are currently missing. These often include:

  • using IT and access technology
  • confidence
  • communication
  • employment skills (interview skills, CV writing, job hunting etc)
  • office and administration skills
  • work experience
  • basic skills (ie literacy and numeracy)
  • braille and braille technology
  • mobility (getting to and from work)
  • independent living skills (cooking, washing etc).

Who are RNIB College employment programmes suitable for?

You will find that the RNIB College can help if you:

  1. are aged between 18 and 63
  2. have a disability
  3. are unemployed
  4. want to get into work

How are the programmes funded?

Programmes are funded through the Jobcentre Plus or the Residential Training Unit, so the best thing to do is speak to a Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) or an Incapacity Benefits Personal Advisor (IBPA) at your local Jobcentre Plus branch.

Funding can cover food, equipment, transport and accommodation if needed.
