Ofsted rate College 'Outstanding'

RNIB College Loughborough has been awarded an 'Outstanding' grade by a recent Ofsted inspection.

In November 2011 the College was assessed by Ofsted, the official body for inspecting establishments that provide education or care to young people and children. Two inspectors visited the College from Monday 14 to Thursday 17 November 2011 and focused on the residential provision with themes linked to Every Child Matters.

The College is delighted to announce the following grades awarded from this inspection:

The official meaning of the term 'Outstanding' as stated by Ofsted is that 'the aspect of provision is of exceptionally high quality'. Therefore the college is undoubtedly delighted with this result.

Inspectors reviewed each area in turn and made some of the following observations:

'The college has outstanding systems for promoting the health and welfare of all learners and provides excellent support for learners while they are living in residence.'

'Arrangements for safeguarding is judged as outstanding reflecting the college priorities for the safety of learners.'

'The arrangements for personal support through an extended curriculum is outstanding with a focus on the promotion of independence skills.

'The living environment is well managed, making it a safe place to live and learn.'

Tony Warren, RNIB College Principal said: "We recruit people with a wide range of disabilities on a residential and day basis. Our students deserve nothing but the very best, and it is good to have this confirmation by inspectors that we are doing well."

This result is an exceptional achievement which puts the College well placed to achieve the goal of being grading as Outstanding at the next full inspection.
