This enterprise is made up of two elements and each is designed to develop learner’s creativity and retail skills in a stimulating business environment.
The shop utilises learners’ customer service and money handling skills. Learners go out into the local community to source products, add their mark up and display the items in the shop. They then serve customers and use the shop till. Any monies made are then used for additional stock, which learners must decide on.
Learners also run their own Ebay selling service known as Sell4U. The process of selling items on Ebay can be complex and learners must understand this from start to finish. This might include sorting through donations, weighing items, photographing items, inputting data on to the site, emailing customers and prospective buyers and also taking sold items down to the local post office. The process develops the learners’ use of IT, literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
